Environmental protection
NV Group is committed to promoting energy conservation and emission reduction, and has specifically evaluated the introduction of international management standards to improve energy management efficiency and climate change resilience. Factories in mainland China and Thailand have established environmental management systems by obtaining ISO 14001 manufacturing certification and passing third-party verification, complying with applicable laws, regulations, and other environmental requirements. We also follow the principles of ISO 14064-1 greenhouse gas inventory, and are gradually conducting greenhouse gas emission inventories and verifications in various regions. Based on the inventory results, carbon reduction targets will be set. Starting with scrutinizing energy consumption, we will develop action plans and evaluate and plan multifaceted climate response actions.
In 2024, Namchow Group reinforced its commitment to environmental sustainability through concrete actions, investing NT$79,251,000 in various environmental projects. These initiatives spanned energy efficiency, waste stream management, and resource circularity. Through these projects, the Group successfully reduced its carbon emissions by 2,053 tons and received accolades such as "Green Factory Demonstration," "Zero Waste Factory," and "Clean Production Enterprise," fully demonstrating the Group's outstanding performance and firm determination in environmental protection.
Energy Management
Nanqi Group's energy consumption is primarily based on purchased electricity, natural gas, and other sources. To strengthen energy usage management, we have established an internal energy leadership team to promote energy-saving measures aimed at reducing consumption, minimizing losses, and preventing waste. By collaborating with regional government energy and environmental policies, or by signing "Annual Energy Saving Target Responsibility Letters," we establish energy-saving directives and goals, implement energy-saving improvements, enhance energy conversion efficiency, and thereby reduce environmental impact.
In 2024, the group's various factories actively implemented multiple improvements to enhance energy efficiency and resource utilization. These included heat recovery, EMS implementation, condensate recovery, and packaging material flow optimization, which effectively reduced energy consumption and waste.
Greenhouse gas management
Nien-Yen Group understands that the main source of greenhouse gas emissions is energy consumption. Therefore, the current focus is on energy consumption inventory and management. Each factory can conduct independent management according to local regulations.
Water Resource Management
In recent years, due to changes in rainfall patterns, there have been occasional water outages or restrictions. The average duration of these water outages is less than 24 hours. To address these situations, our Zhongli plant in Taiwan is equipped with reservoirs and water tanks that can supply the plant for 3 days or more, ensuring uninterrupted operations. Our Qiaohao plant in Shanghai, China, has an emergency water pool with a capacity of 650 cubic meters to prevent accidents and minimize operational losses.
Due to significant seasonal and regional variations in rainfall across different areas, policy-driven water restrictions or pressure reductions may occur due to drought. In addition to continuous implementation of various water conservation measures and wastewater treatment methods, all regions are also assessing their water usage. Tools such as the World Resources Institute (WRI) Aqueduct water risk atlas are used to regularly evaluate the water risk index level of the areas where each production site is located. Water improvement plans and water conservation strategies are then developed based on these assessments.
Waste management
Responding to the global trend of green environmental protection, Namchow Group is integrating the concept of a circular economy into waste management. Through process modifications, they aim to reduce waste generation and utilize process improvements to enhance recycling rates, thereby achieving the goal of reducing waste at its source.
Nien Gia Group's various regions clear, treat, or reuse waste in accordance with local government regulations, and regularly submit reports via network transmission. Additionally, they inquire and confirm the status of waste removal, treatment, and reuse within the prescribed period. They implement waste classification, collection, storage, management, and transportation to effectively control waste. Waste treatment in all regions of the Group complies with regulatory requirements, and permits for discharge or treatment are applied for and reported truthfully to the competent authorities. Currently, waste is primarily disposed of through entrusted external removal and treatment services.
The Taoyuan plant will statistically track factory waste generation monthly, identify which factory activities produce the most waste, and determine which types of waste have the greatest impact on the environment and health. Waste management optimization plans will be evaluated at the quarterly Occupational Safety and Health Committee meetings. In 2024, the policy for reprocessing waste cooking oil will continue to be implemented to reduce waste generated during the production process.
